Do I Need to Be in the UAE for an Interview?

If you’re applying for a job in Dubai while you’re still overseas, you might be wondering:

“Do I have to be in the UAE before they’ll interview me?”

Not necessarily.

Many companies are open to conducting the initial interview virtually, especially when they know they’re considering candidates who are currently outside the UAE.

So yes, you may be able to have your first interview from your home country without booking a flight to Dubai first.

And honestly, this makes sense.

Why would you spend money on flights and accommodation before you even know if the company wants to move forward with you?

Usually, the hiring process can start with a phone call, video interview, or online meeting. If you’re shortlisted further, the company can then explain whether an in-person interview is required.

But here’s the important part:

Every company has its own hiring process.

Some may be happy to interview you completely online, while others may eventually ask you to come to the UAE for a face-to-face meeting.

So, if you’re outside the UAE right now, don’t assume you need to travel first.

Apply for the role, be honest about your current location, and ask the recruiter what the interview process looks like.

You might be surprised how many conversations can happen before you ever step on a plane to Dubai.
