Does the Company Provide Accommodation or a Housing Allowance?

If you’re moving to Dubai from another country, there’s probably another question you’re asking yourself:

“Where am I going to live when I get there?”

And more importantly:

“Will the company pay for it?”

The honest answer is: sometimes, but not always.

Some companies provide company accommodation, particularly for certain roles and industries. Others may offer a housing or accommodation allowance as part of your salary package.

And then there are companies that provide neither, which means you’ll need to arrange and pay for your own accommodation.

This is why I always tell candidates:

Don’t look at the basic salary alone.

If you’re relocating to Dubai, you need to understand the entire package — salary, accommodation or housing allowance, transportation, medical insurance, annual leave, airfare, and any other benefits included in the offer.

Because a salary that sounds great at first can feel very different once you start paying rent, utilities, transportation, and your everyday living expenses.

So, before you accept the offer, simply ask HR:

“Does the company provide accommodation, or is there a housing allowance included in the package?”

And if there is an allowance, ask how much it is and whether it is included in your stated salary or provided separately.

There’s nothing wrong with asking.

You’re not just accepting a job — you’re planning a life in a new country.

The more you understand before you arrive, the easier it will be to make a decision that actually works for you.
