Is the Salary Inclusive of Accommodation, Transportation, or Other Allowances?

If you’re applying for a job in Dubai, you might see a salary mentioned in the job advertisement and think:

“Okay… but is that the amount I’ll actually receive?”

This is where things can get a little confusing.

In the UAE, a salary package can sometimes include different components — such as basic salary, housing allowance, transportation allowance, or other benefits.

So, when you see something like AED 10,000 per month, don’t immediately assume that AED 10,000 is your basic salary.

It could be a total package that includes your basic salary and different allowances.

And this matters.

If you’re relocating from another country, you need to know exactly how much basic salary is, how much is provided as allowances, and which benefits are provided separately.

So before accepting an offer, I would simply ask HR:

“Could you please clarify whether the salary mentioned is the total package, and what allowances or benefits are included?”

You can also ask:

“What is the basic salary, and how much is allocated for housing or transportation?”

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with asking these questions.

In fact, I would strongly recommend that you do.

Because two jobs offering the same AED 10,000 package may not actually give you the same overall benefits.

When you’re moving to a new country, don’t just look at the big number. Look at what that number is made up of.

Understand the package first. Then decide if the offer works for you.
