HR, I’m Applying from Outside the UAE… Should I Apply for Jobs Before Moving to Dubai?

If you’re currently outside the UAE and thinking about working in Dubai, you may be asking yourself:

“Should I start applying for jobs now, or should I move to Dubai first and look for a job when I get there?”

If you’re asking me as HR, my honest advice is:

Start applying before you move.

You don’t necessarily need to be physically in Dubai just to start your job search.

In fact, if you’re applying from overseas, there’s nothing wrong with being upfront about your location and telling the recruiter:

“I’m currently outside the UAE, but I’m interested in relocating for the right opportunity.”

That gives the company a clear picture of your situation from the beginning.

And think about it this way.

Why spend money on flights, accommodation, food, transportation, and everything else that comes with staying in Dubai without knowing how long your job search will take?

You might find a job quickly.

Or it could take weeks or even longer.

There’s simply no guarantee.

If you start applying while you’re still in your home country, you can potentially interview online, understand the opportunities available to you, and get a better idea of the market before spending money on relocation.

Now, does that mean you should never move to Dubai first?

Not necessarily.

Some candidates prefer to be in the UAE because they can attend interviews in person, meet recruiters, and sometimes be available to join more quickly.

But you should be financially prepared for that decision.

Please don't move to Dubai assuming that you’ll definitely find a job within a few days.

Have enough savings to support yourself, understand your visa situation, and give yourself a realistic amount of time to search.

So, if you're sitting there wondering what I would do?

I’d start applying from home first.

See what kind of response you get.

If companies are contacting you, interviewing you, and asking about your availability, that's a very good sign that you don't necessarily need to be in Dubai to get the process started.

And remember:

You don't have to wait until you arrive in Dubai to start building your Dubai career.

Your job search can start from wherever you are right now.
