I hear this a lot from students.
Many think that gaining experience only means getting an internship in a company. If they don’t have an internship yet, they feel like they are already behind.
But honestly, experience is not limited to internships.
There are many ways you can start gaining experience while you are still studying.
For example:
Volunteering in your school
Helping in community activities or projects
Joining school organizations
Taking initiative in group projects
Being part of school events
Even something simple like helping organize a school event or being part of the production team already teaches you important things.
You learn how to:
Work with different people
Communicate and collaborate
Handle responsibilities
Manage your time
These are all real experiences that help you grow.
You can also consider things like:
Tutoring classmates or younger students if your schedule allows
Helping in small projects or activities in your community
Participating in student-led initiatives
All these things may look small, but they are valuable learning moments.
Remember, experience is not always about big opportunities. Sometimes it starts with small steps where you choose to participate, help, and learn.
So don’t feel discouraged if you don’t have a formal internship yet. There are still many ways to build your experience while you are studying. What matters most is that you stay active, curious, and willing to learn.
