If you are a university student, it is normal that you do not have much work experience yet. Employers and HR understand this. Your resume should simply show who you are, what you study, and what activities you are involved in.

Keep your resume clear, honest, and only one page.

Basic Resume Format for Students

Follow this simple order:

1. Personal Information

  • Full Name

  • Email Address

  • Phone Number

  • Current Location (City, Country)

  • Nationality

Photo

  • Add a professional or student photo.

  • I understand that in some country’s resumes are submitted without a photo.

  • However, from my experience working in HR in the UAE, it is common and helpful to include a professional photo.

Make sure the photo is:

  • Clear

  • Simple background

  • Professional appearance

2. Short Introduction

Write 2–3 simple sentences about yourself.

Example:

  • University student currently studying Bachelor of Arts in Communication.

  • Interested in learning workplace skills and gaining experience through internships or entry-level roles.

  • Responsible, willing to learn, and able to work in a team.

Keep it short and honest.

3. Education

Include your current studies.

Example format:

  • Course / Degree

  • University Name

  • Location

  • Year Started – Present or Year Completed

Example:

  • Bachelor of Arts in Communication

  • XYZ University – Dubai, UAE

  • 2022 – Present

4. Awards and Achievements

Include recognition you received in school.

Examples:

  • Academic awards

  • Dean’s list

  • Sports awards

  • Competition awards

5. Extracurricular Activities

Since you may not have work experience yet, this section is very important.

Include activities such as:

  • School organizations you are part of

  • Sports teams

  • Volunteer activities

  • Student leadership roles

Example:

  • Member – University Debate Club

  • Volleyball Team Member

  • Volunteer – School Community Program

These activities show teamwork, discipline, and responsibility.

6. Trainings, Forums, or School Representation

Include any learning events or trainings you attended.

Examples:

  • Leadership seminars

  • School forums

  • Workshops

  • Student conferences

  • Trainings where you represented your school

7. Character / School Reference

You may include 1 reference such as:

  • A professor

  • A school adviser

  • A mentor

Example:

  • Name

  • Position

  • School

  • Email or phone (if allowed)

Important Tips

  • Keep your resume only 1 page

  • Use simple words

  • Do not add unnecessary information

  • Check spelling and grammar

  • Use a clean and clear format

Final Reminder

Your student resume is not expected to be perfect. It simply shows:

  • Who you are

  • What you are studying

  • What activities you are involved in

  • Your willingness to learn

Everyone starts with a simple resume. What matters most is your attitude, responsibility, and willingness to grow.
