How Students Should Answer “Tell Me About Yourself”

This is one of the most common questions in interviews, and honestly, many students feel nervous about it.
I understand why.
You might be thinking, “I don’t have much experience… what should I even say?”
But here’s the truth — as someone working in HR, we are not expecting a perfect or long answer. We just want to understand who you are, what you’re studying, and what you’re looking for.
Keep It Simple
You don’t need to impress. Just be clear and honest.
You can follow this simple flow:
Who you are (student)
What you are studying
What you are interested in
What you are looking for (internship or experience)
Example
“Hi, I’m currently a university student taking up Bachelor of Arts in English. I’m interested in gaining experience and learning more about the workplace, especially in areas where I can improve my communication and organizational skills. I’m currently looking for an opportunity where I can learn and grow.”
A Small Reminder
Don’t try to sound perfect.
Just be yourself, simple and clear.
Even if you feel shy or nervous, that’s okay. What matters more is your honesty and willingness to learn.
We can feel that as HR.
